PM Shehbaz Vows To Overcome Menace Of Terrorism 28487
Description: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday vowed to overcome the menace of terrorism with collective efforts and wisdom. Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad, the premier expressed his serious concerns over the resurgence of terrorist elements, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He maintained that if immediate and effective steps were not taken, the despicable incidents might spread to other parts of the country. PM Shehbaz recalled that the previous defeat was exacted on terrorist elements through the Radd-ul-Fasaad and Zarb-e-Azb operations which restored peace across Pakistan. He added that people from different walks of life, including politicians, rendered their lives in the war against terror and reiterated that the resurfacing of the terrorist elements was a matter of concern. The premier expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of the people of K-P in the war on terrorism. He stated the K-P had remained our frontline province in this war and that its sacrifices would always be remembered by history. Shehbaz highlighted that the province had been given Rs417 billion since 2010 to improve its counter-terrorism capability. The prime minister said that the money was the province's right, but questioned where the amount was spent. PM Shehbaz’s remarks come amidst an uptick in terror, particularly in the K-P region. Earlier this week, at least 100 people, many of them policemen, were martyred and dozens sustained injuries after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines during the afternoon prayers on Monday, police and medics said. Officials confirmed that it was a suicide attack and that the bomber was standing in the front row at the time of the explosion. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Ijaz Khan said the bomber detonated his load when hundreds of people lined up for prayers.
