5.6-magnitude earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Friday, sending tremors across the federal capital and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 73 kilometres. The epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Tremors were felt in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as in multiple areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Mardan, Lower Dir, Malakand, Chitral, Khyber, Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal and Tirah. Shocks were also reported in Sargodha and nearby areas.
Residents in affected cities rushed out of homes and office buildings as the tremors struck, with many reciting prayers amid panic.
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage. Relevant departments are currently assessing the situation to determine any potential impact.
