    China US Express Solidarity With Pakistans Flood Victims 21776
    Description: Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet expressed solidarity on Tuesday with the government and people of Pakistan over the human and financial devastation wrought by the recent floods. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong conveyed the special messages to President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from the Chinese leadership. The leadership expressed grief over the losses. Moreover, China announced an assistance grant of RMB100 million (Yuan), besides dispatching 25,000 tents and other relief items. The first batch of the relief aid containing 300 tents will be arriving in Karachi today. The Chinese ambassador will hand over these articles to the Pakistani authorities. President Xi, in a message to President Alvi, acknowledged that the severe floods have caused heavy casualties and serious property losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, the Chinese president expressed deep condolences for the victims and sincere sympathy to the bereaved families, the injured and the people in affected areas. Meanwhile, US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet also expressed solidarity with the flood victims in Pakistan. “We stand with Pakistan at this difficult hour,” he said. In his tweet following a telephonic conversation with Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan, US Under Secretary Derek Chollet stated that he was “deeply saddened by the lives lost and severe humanitarian impacts in Pakistan due to the recent floods. Ambassador Khan is visiting Michigan, New York and Chicago where he will be meeting the US leadership, businessmen and Pak-American community to solicit their support for flood victims in Pakistan. In Chicago, Ambassador Khan met the president and CEO of Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Jack Levin and apprised him also about the devastation caused in Pakistan. He also met members of Pak-American community in Chicago and urged them to step forward and help their brothers and sisters who were undergoing the trauma of devastation and needed immediate attention in meeting their basic needs including food, shelter and medical care. During his meeting with Mayor Glendale Heights and the local leadership, Khan urged them to mobilize the Pakistani American community for helping the flood victims. “The Pak-American community has not only been making huge contributions towards strengthening Pak-US ties but has always been at the forefront in responding to any call for help from Pakistan. We count on your support at this difficult hour,” added Khan.
