Description: A special central court on Monday extended the interim bail granted to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in a money laundering case against them. Central court Judge Ijaz Hassan Awan heard the case. The PML-N president's counsel Amjad Pervez filed a petition in the court seeking exemption for Sharif's presence, stating that the accused will be performing Umrah and should therefore be granted a bail extension. Judge Awan directed the lawyer to write a petition to the court and also present the accused in the next hearing so that the court can frame the charge, and take the case forward. To which, Pervez asked whether the evidence presented by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) ??in the challan would result in the accused being charged? Azam Nazir Tarar of the PML-N told the court that the investigation is complete and the report has been filed. Read Allies assure Shehbaz of full support "We have not received any instructions yet," the prosecutor said. Subsequently, the court adjourned the case till April 27 and extended the interim bail. The PML-N leader, who is expected to be the 23rd prime minister of the country, was released on bail in April 2021 in the money-laundering case. The special court (Central-I) of FIA was likely to indict Shehbaz and Hamza in a Rs14 billion money laundering case on Monday. However, the case now faces uncertainty as the FIA Punjab Director Muhammad Rizwan, who is probing the money laundering cases against the father-son duo, has gone on leave for an indefinite period. In September 2020, Sharif was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after the Lahore High Court rejected his bail plea in the same case. Sharif was taken into custody from the court's premises, where a large number of PML-N workers and supporters had gathered ahead of the hearing. However, on most occasions, doors would be shut to the public during his court appearances, strictly disallowing anyone to enter the premises for as long as the proceedings continued.
