Soon after Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain terminated the party membership of his brother Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the former Punjab chief minister on Tuesday announced joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with 10 former MPAs.
He made the announcement during a press conference in Lahore flanked by senior PTI leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.

Last month, Elahi had announced that he was considering merging the PML-Q with allies PTI. Shujaat then issued a show-cause notice to Elahi on January 16 stating that the provincial president could not merge the party with another one, and asking him to explain his unconstitutional action within seven days.
“Elahi should explain the unconstitutional and illegal action. PML-Q, as a political party, has its own vote bank, discipline, manifesto and code. Elahi's statements of the previous day are a violation of party rules.”
However, as per a press release issued earlier today, no explanation had been given by Elahi over his actions and therefore, his membership has been terminated.
