US President Biden Wishes Incumbent Govt Well In Letter To PM Shehbaz 48362
Description: US President Joe Biden has wished Pakistan and its newly elected government well in a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif - the first official correspondence by the US head of state in years. In his letter, Biden stated that the partnership between the people of the two countries is critical to ensuring the security of the region and the world at large and assured that the US stands with Pakistan in facing the most important challenges that face the world and the region. President Biden maintained that public health, economic development and education are a shared vision and "we will continue to advance together". The letter further stated that Washington wants to further strengthen its alliance with Pakistan to improve the environment under the US-Pakistan Green Alliance Framework. Referring to the devastating floods of 2022, the US head of state stated that the country wants to continue supporting Islamabad in recovery efforts, water management and agriculture development. The letter to the premier stated that the US is determined to protect human rights in Pakistan and promote development together with the country and added that the initiatives will strengthen the partnership between the two letters. Concluding the letter, the US head of state said the close relationship between the people of the two countries will further strengthen the bilateral relationship. It is pertinent to mention this is the first official communication from the Oval Office with Pakistan's premier in years. During the tenure of former premier Imran Khan, the US president ignored the then-premier. While Imran had hoped to revive the high-level engagement with the US under the Biden presidency, Washington did not reciprocate as the relations between the two countries had downgraded during the presidency of Donald Trump. Although Imran visited the US in July 2019 at the invitation of then-president Trump and also met him later at the sidelines of the UNGA, no significant progress was made in bilateral relations.
