The announcement was shared by Jawad Sharif Films on Instagram, celebrating the milestone achievement.
“Our film Moklani has become the first Pakistani feature to win at the 2025 Jackson Wild Media Awards,” the post read.
“We dedicate this recognition to the Mohana fisherfolk, to Pakistan, and to all indigenous communities whose resilience and wisdom inspire us to keep telling meaningful stories,” the statement added.
Directed and produced by renowned filmmaker Jawad Sharif, the documentary was chosen from more than 500 international entries, highlighting Pakistan’s growing presence in global environmental storytelling.
Moklani – The Last Mohanas focuses on the Mohana people of Manchar Lake, an indigenous fishing community whose centuries-old way of life is disappearing due to environmental degradation and climate change.
Produced with the support of the National Geographic Society and Climate Kahani, the film captures both the beauty and the struggle of a community facing cultural extinction, reflecting Pakistan’s broader climate challenges.
