According to reports, Maya Kibbel had been suffering from Wilson’s disease, a condition that causes excess copper to accumulate in the body, potentially damaging organs such as the liver and brain.
Despite undergoing treatment and fighting the illness for years, she collapsed on March 7 and later died when her heart and lungs stopped functioning.
Maya’s mother, Kiyoko Kibbel, confirmed the tragic news in an emotional social media post.
She wrote that Maya had endured significant pain due to the illness but had fought bravely until the end.
“Maya had been suffering from a rare disease called Wilson’s disease. She fought hard but her body gave out.”
She added that her daughter had “entered Heaven where she can be with her daddy with no more pain or tears.”
Following the announcement, Nick Jonas shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing Maya as someone who was like a sister to him.“My sister forever. Here for you always.”
Maya had grown up alongside the Jonas family, maintaining a close bond with them throughout the years.
Wilson’s disease is an inherited condition in which the body cannot properly eliminate copper, causing it to build up in organs. While it can be managed with early diagnosis and lifelong medication, untreated cases can become life-threatening.
After the news of Maya’s passing spread online, fans and followers shared messages of support and sympathy for her family and for Nick Jonas during this difficult time.
Her death has drawn attention to the challenges faced by people living with rare genetic disorders.
