According to reports, she had been in a coma since Saturday’s strikes and passed away on Monday. Iranian outlets, including Tasnim news agency, confirmed her death, describing it as “martyrdom.”
The airstrike reportedly targeted the family’s compound in central Tehran, killing Khamenei and several members of his family.
Strike on Tehran Residence
Iranian authorities confirmed that Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in the strike, which also claimed the lives of his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchild and other relatives present at the residence.
The attack has been described by Iranian officials as a major blow to the country’s leadership. Khamenei, 86, had served as Supreme Leader since 1989 and was the most powerful political and religious authority in Iran.
A Private Figure
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, believed to be in her late seventies, maintained a largely private life despite her husband’s prominent political role. The couple married in the mid-1960s and had six children.
She rarely appeared in public and held no official government position. In a past interview, she described her role as creating a calm home environment to allow her husband to focus on political responsibilities.
National Mourning Declared
Iranian authorities have declared a 40-day period of national mourning following the deaths, along with a seven-day nationwide holiday to allow funeral ceremonies and public condolences.
