Bilawal Confirms PMLN Seeks PPP Backing For 27th Amendment 74236
    Description:

Bilawal shared on social media platform X that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) delegation, headed by the PM, formally approached the PPP to secure support for the proposed changes.

He explained that the 27th Amendment includes several major provisions, including the creation of a constitutional court, restoration of executive magistrates, transfer of judges, and modifications to Article 243 related to the armed forces.

The amendment also seeks to remove provincial share protections in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, return education and population planning powers to the federal government, and resolve the stalemate over appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Bilawal added that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet on November 6, after President Zardari returns from Doha, to finalize the party’s stance on the proposed amendment.

In the meantime, sources indicate that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has started consulting other allied parties ahead of the PPP’s decision.

According to the sources, the government has decided to reach out to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chapter (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Awami National Party (ANP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazlur Rehman group (JUI-F) to discuss the main points and preliminary framework of the proposed amendment.

On the other hand, the government has decided to convene the National Assembly session on Wednesday, November 5.

According to reports, the Prime Minister’s Office has forwarded a summary, prepared by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, to the Presidency for approval.

It is also pertinent to mention that the Senate session is also scheduled to be held tomorrow, on November 4.
