Under the constitution, the name of the proposed prime minister must be submitted along with the no-confidence motion. Earlier reports suggested that the motion would be tabled after a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to finalise the political strategy.
According to the sources, the PPP will move a no-confidence motion against incumbent premier Anwar-ul-Haq in the AJK Assembly Secretariat on Thursday.
The sources said that lawmakers from both the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have signed the motion. However, reports suggest that the PPP and the PML-N have yet to reach a complete understanding on the post-motion arrangement.
The PML-N has demanded that if the no-confidence motion succeeds, the assembly should be dissolved and fresh elections called soon after the formation of a new government.
Meanwhile, incumbent Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq has decided to resist the moves to replace him, is planning to file a reference against defecting lawmakers.
Political analysts say that once the motion is submitted, the AJK Assembly is likely to enter a new phase of political realignment, with potential implications for the region’s future political landscape.
