The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where a detailed review of proposed police reforms was conducted. The Inspector General of Police and other senior officials were directed to ensure immediate execution of the new measures.
Under the reform plan, “Pink Buttons” will be installed outside police stations to facilitate quick grievance redressal. Additionally, the investigation process will be audio and video recorded to enhance transparency and accountability.
The government has also decided to introduce an online FIR tracking system across Punjab. Citizens will be able to register FIRs online for lost identity cards and important documents.
CM Maryam Nawaz approved funds for the provision of body cameras to police personnel. At least 10 officers at every police station will be equipped with body cams. In total, 14,000 body cameras and 700 Pink Buttons will be installed across the province.
The Chief Minister further directed police officials to address every citizen respectfully by saying “Sir” and to ensure that minor complaints are resolved within two to three hours. She also ordered an end to rude behavior at checkpoints and the elimination of the so-called “Oye culture.”
The reforms aim to improve public trust, enhance service delivery, and ensure greater accountability within the Punjab Police system.
