The attempted assault was repelled after the police mounted an immediate and forceful response, preventing the attackers from breaching the security post.
District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ismail Khan Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada said unknown armed terrorists opened fire on the Khatti check post during the night, prompting a swift and retaliatory response from the police.
He added that intense gunfire was exchanged from both sides, after which two militants described as “khawarij” were shot dead while a police officer sustained minor injuries.
DPO Sahibzada reached the site of the attack immediately after receiving information, where senior officers, including the SP Sadar, DSP City, and DSP Sabarb, also remained present with additional police force.
The DPO praised the police force for repelling the attack with courage, stating that the morale of the officers remained high following the encounter.
The incident came a day after the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) reported killing three Indian-sponsored terrorists during an operation in DI Khan.
According to the CTD, the slain militants, identified as Naimatullah, Abdul Rauf Afghani and Mustafa, were involved in multiple attacks on security forces.
Weapons and hand grenades were also recovered from their possession following the operation.
