According to the report, the service has been launched in collaboration with a private cellular company, enabling passengers to access ultra-fast internet connectivity and advanced digital facilities at the airport.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) officials, the introduction of 5G services will provide travellers with seamless connectivity, enhancing their overall airport experience through modern digital solutions.
The PAA officials said passengers at the airport are already benefiting from the high-speed service, which is expected to redefine connectivity standards at aviation hubs across the country.
Earlier, on March 19 leading telecom operators Jazz and Zong had formally launched their 5G services in Pakistan, signalling the beginning of next-generation connectivity nationwide.
In the initial phase, Jazz activated 5G services at around 180 sites, covering Islamabad and all four provincial capitals, including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta, along with major urban centres such as Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad.
The company said it is also expanding and upgrading its nationwide 4G network to improve service quality, adding that it has secured multiple spectrum bands, including 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz, following the recent spectrum auction.
Meanwhile, Zong has accelerated its rollout, announcing the commercial launch of 5G services in more than 16 cities, with plans to install over 1,000 5G sites by 2026.
The company said its trials have achieved speeds exceeding 1.4 Gbps, highlighting the transformative potential of the technology.
Officials from both companies emphasised that 5G will play a critical role in Pakistan’s industrial and economic development, with advanced networks powered by artificial intelligence expected to significantly improve connectivity, digital services and user experience.
The launch at Islamabad Airport is being seen as a key step towards modernising Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure while aligning it with global technological standards.
